The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that August 17-23 will mark the first "my Social Security Week." During this week, SSA will host numerous events and activities across the country to raise awareness about the benefits of having a my Social Security account and to encourage the public to sign up for their account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
Why should your constituents open a free my Social Security account?
Individuals can use their my Social Security (www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount) account to access their Social Security Statement to check their earnings and get estimates of future retirement, disability, and survivor benefits they or their families may receive. If individuals already receive Social Security benefits, they can get benefit verification letters, change their address and phone number, and start or change their direct deposit information.
SSA need your help!
As part of my Social Security Week, you can help SSA spread the word by hosting sign-up events, posting information on your website and social media outlets and supporting the campaign through Thunderclap. You can find all the resources you need to support this campaign at http://socialsecurity.gov/myaccount/materials.html.
If you will be supporting SSA's campaign or are interested in getting some additional information, please send an email to email@example.com; a member of the Office of External Affairs staff will contact you directly.
