Service of Remembrance: In addition to honoring the funeral service professionals who died in the last year, the 2012 Service of Remembrance reflected the solemn and reverent military funerals that are conducted with precision every day at Arlington National Cemetery. The U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard," rendered full military honors during a service that was a moving tribute to our military heroes.

The Old Guard is the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the Army, serving the nation since 1784. It is the Army's official ceremonial unit and escort to the president; it also provides security for Washington, D.C., in time of national emergency or civil disturbance. The members of The Old Guard render military honors for funerals at Arlington National Cemetery and provide the 24 hour a day, seven day a week watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
